A number of people have email and asked questions about what the football players are holding in the pictures from 1894, 1899 & 1905. We have found out that they are Nose-Guards. In this picture the football two players in the middle are wearing the Nose-Guard around their necks, one person in the back row is wearing it around his neck and in the front row the player all the way on the right is holding the Nose-Guard.
