We are proud to recognize and honor the successful
football team which represented our school last fall. From the squad which
drilled under the early autumn sun, an optimist could have predicted only
a mediocre season. Following a slow beginning, our boys rapidly progressed
as each week slipped by. The peak was reached by winning the annual Doylestown
Turkey Day tilt. Our excellent coaching staff, consisting of I. Newton
Cowan and James B. Crawford, surprised the school, the league, and themselves
by producing a scrappy eleven which mounted to the runner-up position
in the Bux-Mont Conference. Since Captain Poe Niess wills the backbone
of this year's squad to Captain-elect Bob Graham, a great deal is expected
during the coming campaign. In the future perhaps we can reminisce with
Coach Cowan who remembers his '36 team as his "youngest, lightest,
and best."
